ACADEMY MEMBERSHIP
WHO
Membership of the Academy is limited to artists working in the production of films & series. The Academy has 08 branches, for professions ranging from actors to scriptwriters, and the Artists’ Representatives category, for people working in the film industry as representatives.
HOW
Membership of the Academy is by sponsorship, not by application. Candidates must be sponsored by two Academy members belonging to the branch they wish to join.
In addition, candidates for the Jazair Awards are automatically considered for membership and do not need to be sponsored.
Nominated and sponsored candidates are reviewed by branch committees, and membership recommendations are considered by the Academy’s Board of Governors. The Board decides which individuals will receive an invitation.
Applications are reviewed in the spring of each year. The deadline for sponsoring a candidate in the current cycle is Friday, February 28, 2025.
SPONSORSHIP INSTRUCTIONS
Sponsoring a candidate for the Academy is a serious commitment. Make sure the candidate has truly “demonstrated outstanding achievement in the film industry” before agreeing to sponsor someone.
It’s important to know your industry’s admission criteria.
Please note:
- Candidates for branch membership must be sponsored by members of the branch in question. Artists’ representative candidates must be sponsored by at least one artists’ representative member, with a second sponsor from any branch. Artists’ representatives may only sponsor artists’ representatives.
NEW MEMBERS PROPOSAL PROCESS
A candidate for membership must be sponsored by two members of the branch for which he or she qualifies. One of the sponsors must initiate the sponsorship process on the Academy’s member site. Please consult your branch’s requirements before submitting a candidate to the exam.
Once both sponsors have completed the online process, the proposed candidate will receive an e-mail requesting further information. Once the form has been completed, Member Relations and Rewards will contact the candidate if further information is required.
Member evaluation takes place once a year.
Each candidate who has received a favorable opinion from the relevant branch executive committee will be submitted to the Board of Governors for final approval and invitation to become a member.
